SAFETY

Accidents are undesirable, unplanned occurrences which can be prevented and which often result in bodily harm, loss of school time, property damage, possibly expensive legal action and even death.  Thus, it shall be the policy of the Assumption Parish School Board to take every reasonable precaution for the safety of the students, employees, visitors, and all others having business with the School Board.  The Board believes that safety education and accident prevention are important to every one concerned with our schools, not only as a protective measure during school hours, but also as an instructional means of developing an appropriate mode of behavior to minimize accidents at all times.

The Superintendent shall be authorized to develop and coordinate a safety program to be utilized throughout the parish.  Requirements of civil authorities, as well as safety aspects of other appropriate agencies shall be incorporated into the safety program.  Special emphasis shall be placed upon supervision within the classroom and requirements concerning safety precautions in high-risks areas, such as shop classes and physical education classes.

The Board shall require the Superintendent or his/her designee to conduct regular inspections of all buildings and grounds and to make periodic evaluative reports concerning their adequacy in terms of safety.
