ANNUAL LEAVE

Annual leave can be earned only by twelve-month full-time employees of the Assumption Parish School Board.  Annual leave shall be earned based on the years of experience in a regular full-time twelve month position with the Assumption Parish School Board.  Such leave shall be separate and apart from other types of leave or approved office closures.

Administrative personnel of the Assumption Parish School Board shall be granted fifteen (15) days annual leave per fiscal year commencing July 1.  All twelve (12) month employees except administrators, for the first three (3) years of employment, shall be granted six (6) (or .5 days per month) days of annual leave.  Starting with the fourth (4th) year of employment these twelve month employees shall be granted twelve (12) (or 1 day per month) days of annual leave.  Starting with the tenth (10th) year of employment these employees shall be granted fifteen (15) (or 1.25 days per month) days annual leave.  All school principals shall receive eighteen (18) (or 1.5 days per month) annual leave days.

An applicant for annual leave shall apply at least two (2) weeks in advance of dates of requested annual leave to his/her immediate supervisor for approval and recommendation to the Superintendent.  Such application shall indicate specific time requested, anticipated job related activities during leave and arrangement for addressing job functions during leave period.  All annual leave requests shall have the approval of the immediate supervisor before leave may be taken.  Employees exceeding their annual leave balance shall be penalized by salary reduction at their daily rate of pay based on their annual salary.

Effective July 1, 2017, all annual leave shall be earned on a monthly basis, which shall begin at the time of employment as a twelve-month employee, but cannot be used until it is earned.  Twelve-month employees shall earn annual leave days on the 25th of each month.  Unused leave as of June 30th yearly may be carried forward to the succeeding year up to a maximum of twenty (20) total days.  If at any time an employee has twenty (20) days of accumulated annual leave, monthly accrual shall cease until the employee has less than twenty (20) days of accumulated annual leave days.

Upon retirement or termination of employment, the employee may choose to be paid for any unused accumulated annual leave days (maximum of 20 days), or convert such unused accumulated annual leave to service credit for retirement purposes, in which case such conversion shall be governed by applicable statutes and/or rules of the respective retirement system.

Any unused annual leave paid at the time of separation (termination, resignation, retirement, entrance into DROP, or death) shall be paid to the employee or his/her heirs on or before the next regular payday or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation at the employee's daily rate of pay.
