EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

The Assumption Parish School Board believes that every child in this parish should be provided with the opportunity to obtain an education and that they should be given a stimulating environment and opportunities for learning experiences designed to promote behavioral development that will provide for satisfactory adjustments to life.

The philosophy of education of this School System is one which advocates:

1.

That education is one of the basic ingredients for a rich and full life.

2.

That every child who enrolls in this system will be entitled to the same opportunities to develop to the limit of their abilities.

3.

That teaching is a profession and that only those dedicated to this profession should be in it.

4.

That all personnel associated with the system contributes to the progress of the system and they should all be aware of this.

5.

That all students should be held accountable for work based on ability.

6.

That good relationship, showing a wholesome respect for authority is necessary to excellent teaching.

7.

That boys and girls should be taught to understand what it means to live in a democracy.

8.

That every boy and girl should have the opportunity to develop a healthy and physically fit body.

9.

That girls and boys develop cultural and aesthetic appreciation.

We believe that democracy should prevail in our educational system. We believe that education in our American Democracy should develop every individual in all aspects; physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and morally, to the limit of their abilities and ours, so that they will find their place in society and use that place for the betterment of them-selves and our democratic way of life. It is the purpose of our schools to strive to meet the educational needs of all youth in our parish.

We strive to make our students more aware of their need for education in order to become well-rounded citizens, understanding of the many problems, complexities and conflicts of society, aware of their opportunities and conscious of and ready to assume their responsibilities, duties, and rights in their school, community, nation and world.

We believe that we should encourage students to recognize, develop and utilize their abilities, special gifts and talents in reaching their educational goals. Our curriculum must offer academic, vocational, commercial and vocational-technical choices. We strive to help our students grow through meaningful learning experiences, challenges and competitions gained under the guidance of qualified teachers and through careful programming, experiences in the classroom, on the playground, in the lunchroom and assembly hall, and in organizations and various other extra-curricular activities that will assist them in finding their place in our complex social structure.

We believe that, in order to achieve the above, we need to study constantly, the school curriculum, as it now stands, against the objectives of the educational program and the needs of the young people today, with the view of curriculum revision to meet ever changing and increasing needs in and about our school community.
