ENTRANCE AGE

 

 

The Assumption Parish School Board shall require children entering kindergarten at the beginning of the school session for the first time to be at least five (5) years of age on or before September 30 of the calendar year in which the school year begins.  For students entering first grade for the first time at the beginning of the school session, they shall be six (6) years on or before September 30 of the calendar year in which the school year begins.

 

A child younger than the above may be permitted to enter school provided the child has been evaluated and identified as gifted.  A child admitted to kindergarten shall be eligible to enter first grade upon successful completion of kindergarten, provided all other applicable entrance requirements have been fulfilled.

 

A child will be admitted to the first grade provided:

 

1.

He/she meets the criteria of the Pupil Progression Plan;

 

2.

He/she has successfully completed the kindergarten curriculum;

 

3.

He/she is six (6) years old and by using a standard test is determined to be functioning at first grade level.

 

All exceptional children, ages three (3) through twenty-one, have the right to a free appropriate public education which is determined by the individual education program.
